FEED MY PEOPLE LIBERIA'S NUTRITION PROGRAMME:
Barnersville Feeding Centre, Barnersville, Monrovia, Liberia

Children eating at FMPL's feeding centre in Barnersville, Monrovia
NAME OF PROJECT: Barnersville Feeding Centre
DURATION OF PROJECT: Started 2006.
SUMMARY OF THIS PROJECT: All 410 children in Barnersville School receive one hot and nutritious meal, every school day (i.e. once a day, 5 times a week, during term time), from this Feeding Centre.
KEY BENEFICIARIES OF PROJECT: 410 pupils between nursery and 6th grade, and their families.
GOAL OF PROJECT: To provide a hot nutritious meal to all students, once a day, 5 days a week, at Barnersville School.
KEY ACTIVITIES OF THIS PROJECT: Provide food, cooking utensils and all necessary equipment, to ensure feeding centre staff can give all pupils a hot and nutritious meal, every school day, during term time. Employ cooks and well qualified nutrition staff, to prepare the menu and food. During term time, feed all children, on time, each school day.
FUTURE PLANS ON THIS PROJECT: Measure progression of child health over time and the nutritional value of the meals.
IMPACT OF PROJECT TO DATE: This Feeding Centre helps to keep the children in school. The children are extremely happy to receive their good portion of rice, meat/fish and sauce, in the middle of a school day. Children are fed on time, every school day, in shifts, to make sure that all children receive food.
QUOTES FROM PEOPLE ON THE PROJECT: “The feeding programme has been a blessing to the little ones who benefit from it. Now, other communities in the country are appealing to us to extend similar programmes to their schools. We hail FMPUK, their partners and individuals who are contributing to this worthy cost.” (FMPL Programme Officer, December 2006)
