FEED MY PEOPLE LIBERIA'S HEALTH PROGRAMME:
Point 4 Medical Clinic, Point 4, Monrovia, Liberia

Staff at FMPL Medical Clinic at Point 4, Monrovia, Liberia
NAME OF PROJECT: Construction of a Health Clinic
DURATION OF PROJECT: Started in 2006.
SUMMARY OF THIS PROJECT: By the end of April 2007, FMPUK had raised money to fund the construction of a well-designed health clinic in the Point 4 region of Monrovia. The Clinic has 11 rooms with clean surroundings and is easily accessible to the population of Point 4 community. One of the added advantages of this clinic is that the school is located immediately next to the clinic, so the clinic aims to provide support in health and education particularly to the children attending Point 4 School, and their families.
KEY BENEFICIARIES OF PROJECT: The population of Point 4.
GOAL OF PROJECT: “The goal of this project is to provide medical services to the community, especially for those who are not financially potent to meet their health needs, at a very minimum cost. It will also provide health information reports periodically to the Ministry of Health about the health situation of the people in the community. It will also help the Liberian Government to strengthen the health system of the country” (From the original proposal)
KEY ACTIVITIES OF THIS PROJECT: Construction of the clinic building, consisting of 11 rooms. Identification of 9 staff to work in the clinic. Treatment of patients at the clinic.
FUTURE PLANS ON THIS PROJECT: This project has achieved its objectives, and a well-designed clinic is now in place. However, more money will be sought in the future, to make the clinic fully operational and carry out the following: Ensure the clinic is fully equipped, with furniture, drugs, educational materials, tiled floor, medical supplies, electricity, water, good record-keeping, etc. Formalise the link between the Clinic and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. Provide staff training, if required. Invite MoHSW to officially open the clinic, when equipped.
IMPACT OF PROJECT TO DATE: Very little impact, as the clinic is not yet fully operational.
QUOTES FROM PEOPLE ON THE PROJECT: “The building of the clinic is one of the major achievements for FMP in Liberia. When completed, it will mainly cater for the health needs of old folk, pregnant women and children from poor backgrounds.” (FMP Director, Jan 2007).
