NAME OF PROJECT: 2006 Smile Too Kids Christmas Parties


DURATION OF PROJECT: 5 days (in Nov- Dec 2005)


SUMMARY OF THIS PROJECT: Children parties were held in 15 locations across Monrovia, in order to restore hope to the lives of children and to gather baseline data for FMPL project planning.

KEY BENEFICIARIES OF PROJECT: 9,448 orphans, street children and internally-displaced people and refugees, between the ages of 2-15 years old.

GOAL OF PROJECT: “The goal of the project is to exhibit a spirit of love, care and concern for the children of Liberia, particularly the unfortunate ones.” (From the Project Proposal)

KEY ACTIVITIES OF THIS PROJECT ALREADY CARRIED OUT: Plan and organise Christmas parties in 15 locations throughout Monrovia. Distribute gifts and food to children, at each party.

FUTURE PLANS ON THIS PROJECT: This is a short-term project, but could be repeated annually.

IMPACT OF PROJECT TO DATE: 9,448 orphans, street children and internally-displaced people and refugees, enjoyed a Christmas Party.

QUOTES FROM PEOPLE ON THE PROJECT: “I really liked the party because I got rice and toys. (A child who attended the party in Slipway, May 2007). “We enjoyed the Christmas Parties and we want to extend our appreciation to FMPUK. The children liked the parties. They don’t normally do anything different for Christmas.” (Community Volunteers in Slipway, May 2007). “Meals prepared at all of the various feeding centres were jollof rice, cake and punch. Every child got some meals to eat during the party. The meals were well prepared by the dieticians that were responsible for the preparation.” (Report on th 2006 Christmas Party, written by FMPL staff).
